A guide to Cygnet River - where to eat and stay

A view of water at Duck Lagoon

Just a short drive from the island’s main town of Kingscote lies Cygnet River. Cygnet River is surrounded by stunning landscapes, including large gum trees, and picturesque farmland. The river itself, after which the town is named, flows through the area, adding to its charm.

Due to the surrounding native vegetation, you can spot plenty of wildlife, including kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnas, and a wide variety of bird species. Cygnet River is also home to several cellar doors, making it the perfect destination for a day out whilst on Kangaroo Island.

Springs Road Wines were established in 1994 on a small sheep property west of Kingscote. In 2016 Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith from McLaren Vale’s organic Battle of Bosworth wines bought the vineyards, and in 2018 opened a cellar door and released their first KI wines under the Springs Road label.

Their wines are hand-made, and estate grown, with their organic certification pending – make sure to try their Chardonnay. With their delicious wines, friendly dog, a large deck and amazing rural views, a visit to Springs Road cellar door is an essential part of any trip to Kangaroo Island.
