KIFS Temporary Service Shutdown

As we prepare for the transition to the new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service, ferry services will not be operating from Tuesday 20 to Thursday 22 October 2026 (inclusive), subject to weather conditions.

The shutdown will support final preparations for the new ferry service, including the installation of new vehicle ramps at Cape Jervis and Penneshaw.

Key Dates and Service Information

  • Monday 19 October: Last service before the temporary shutdown period will be departing from Cape Jervis at 6pm on Monday 19 October 2026.
  • Tuesday 20 to Thursday 22 October: The temporary shutdown is expected to occur from Tuesday 20 October - Thursday 22 October 2026 (inclusive) - subject to weather conditions.
  • Friday 23 October: Services are expected to resume on a limited timetable with SeaLion 2000 only for approximately 3 to 4 days, weather permitting. During this time, Wanggami will undergo final crew training, familiarisation and system testing.

Terminal Precinct and Boat Ramp Closures

The Cape Jervis and Penneshaw terminal precincts will be closed to public access, except for authorised personnel, from the evening of Monday 19 October until the morning of Friday 23 October.

The Cape Jervis boat ramp will also be closed from 12 to 30 October 2026, with alternative launching facilities available at Wirrina Cove.

What's Next?

Following completion of training and testing, Wanggami will commence service alongside SeaLion 2000 on the existing timetable.

We will continue to provide further updates on Ruwi and the commencement of the expanded schedule for both new ferries once confirmed.
