General

1. Flammable liquids in portable containers with a combined carrying capacity of 500 litres or more will not be carried (eg. boat tanks, jerry cans, paints & thinners) unless arrangements have been made prior as loading may be required onto a flammable/dangerous goods departure.

2. Please use Middle Terrace when travelling to & from the Penneshaw wharf area and assemble in the freight loading lanes if checking in for a departure. The Traffic Management Plan requires that all heavy vehicles use this route in lieu of North Terrace.

3. Excessively dirty stock crates may be denied carriage. Ports Corp & Local Government bodies are concerned with the environmental implications at both Cape Jervis & Penneshaw wharf areas.

4. All drivers must check in at the wharf offices prior to loading.

  • Staff require confirmation of driver/passenger names, cargo being carried, total meterage & tonnage booked.
  • Goods Declaration sheets must be completed and signed prior to boarding the vessel.

5. Trucks & trailers must be fully operational & have adequate tie down points if required.

6. All loads must be adequately secured.

7. No dangerous or flammable cargo will be carried on the Sealion 2000 ferry.

8. Empty stock crates carried on the Sealion 2000 must be washed out.

9. No equipment should be left in the breakwater car park at Penneshaw. If you need to leave equipment for a period of time, alternative-parking arrangements will need to be found.

10. Trucks should not enter the wharf loading areas until the area is clear from prior ferry traffic.

11. Failure to comply with the above points may result in denial of carriage at the Ship Masters discretion.

  • Class E: Full payment is required at time of booking for all travel within 30 days.

    Class A-D: All bookings must be paid for at least 48 hours prior to travel when not on account unless alternative arrangements have been pre advised.

  • Due to the complexity, staff time and communication costs of the booking process, a charge of $22 (including GST) may apply to any changes/alterations made.

    Cancellations or alterations to confirmed meterage or tonnage might also incur cancellation fees. Alterations made at check in to meterage held will be charged the higher value.

    Class A-D: Requests for cancellation of bookings within a fortnight of travel is finalised when the TIPC customer has been faxed / emailed a "Cancelled Booking Confirmation Slip". Until the TIPC customer has received that, all bookings are considered confirmed.

    Cancellation fees apply to the total cancelled value and are as follows:-

    • Class E: Advice received less than 30 days prior to scheduled departure and outside of 48 hours where lengths held are reduced: 15% of the fare.
    • Class E & D: Advice received less than 48 hours prior to scheduled departure: 25% of the fare.
    • Class E, D, C & B: Advice received less than 24 hours prior to scheduled departure: 50% of the fare.
    • All Classes: Failure to load: 100% of the fare.

    Bookings of units over 5m wide:-

    • A deposit of 25% is required at the time of booking to secure the reservation.
    • Cancellation advice received outside 48 hours prior to scheduled departure will result in the 25% deposit being applied to fees.
    • Normal cancellation conditions apply for ALL Classes if advice received is less than 48 hours prior to scheduled departure - please see above.
  • 1. Check-in time for ferry is to be a minimum of 30 minutes prior to departure. Due to loading requirements, the SeaLink Kangaroo Island reserves the right to refuse boarding for both passengers and vehicles / units after this time.

    2. Check-in procedures require that you quote your booking number in order to collect your boarding pass. The Company reserves the right to refuse travel if satisfactory identification cannot be provided if requested.

    3. Drivers only permitted on the vehicle deck.

    4. Drivers must accept direction by the SeaLink Kangaroo Island crew at all times during loading and unloading.

    5. Smoking is prohibited on the vessel at all times.

    6. Travel may only be permitted for a person or persons whose name(s) appear on the SeaLink Kangaroo Island manifests. Travel arrangements may only be transferred to another person(s) with the knowledge and authority of the Company and person that made the booking.

    7. The SeaLink Kangaroo Island reserves the right to refuse to carry any person or cargo aboard any Company vessel or vehicle where the Company deems the person or cargo to be undesirable, unsuitable or dangerous.

  • 1. In these conditions "the Company" means the SeaLink Kangaroo Island, its servants and agents and "the passenger" means the passenger booked to travel. Travel must be completed within 12 months of payment. These conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Australia and any Australian State.

    2. The Company reserves the right to cancel, vary this service in any way, or substitute any ferry or other means of transport without incurring any liability.

    3. Fares, times, schedules and routes are subject to alteration, without prior notice, at the discretion of the Company.

    4. The Company shall not be liable for any loss or damage which may arise in the event of cancellation of this service or the abandonment of the service during the course thereof (should the Company or any of its servants or agents decide that such abandonment is necessary) or of any deviation or delay in any service arising from any cause whatsoever. In any such event the Company will not be liable in any way for consequential damage including, but not limited to, the cost of accommodation or for any alternative means of travel which may arise and any additional expense so arising shall be the liability of the passenger.

    5. The Company accepts no responsibility for loss of, or damage to, any vehicle being carried for the passenger, or luggage, or for consequential damages arising there-from whether sustained during off-loading or transportation, and whether arising from negligence, malfunction of the vessel or other cause, except to the extent that the exclusion of such liability is prohibited by law.

    6. The Company accepts no responsibility for any injury and/or death of a passenger travelling on this service whether caused by negligence, malfunction to the vessel or other cause except to the extent that exclusion of such liability is prohibited by law.

    7. Kangaroo Island is a Ligurian Bee Sanctuary. Importing honey, pollen or other bee products is prohibited. A fine of up to $10,000 may apply.

    8. Biosecurity on Kangaroo Island - Please help protect Kangaroo Island and keep it safe from pests and diseases. Do not bring any bee or honey products, unwashed potatoes, vine cuttings, foxes or rabbits onto the island. Penalties may apply.
