Our top 5 spots for sunrise and sunset on Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island enjoys endless sunshine, so it's not surprising that the island witnesses some of the most incredible sunrise and sunsets. Here's our quick guide to finding the most beautiful locations for sunrise and sunset on the island.

1. West Point for sunset

This is arguably the best spot to watch the sunset on Magnetic Island — with stunning, uninterrupted views as the sky turns gold and pink! The beach at West Point is wide, peaceful and often completely deserted, giving you plenty of space to soak in the moment. Getting there is about a 20–30 minute drive from Picnic Bay along a grated dirt road that only certain hire cars are permitted to use — but you can simply join the MI Ride Sunset Tour for easy and stress-free access.

2. Hawkings Point Lookout for sunset

Easily accessed from the eastern side of Picnic Bay Street, this lookout is definitely one of the best spots to soak in the day and watch beautiful tropical sunsets. Here, you will have a good view over Rocky Bay and you can even attempt to scramble down to the bay.

3. Forts Walk for sunrise

The walk starts at the Forts car park on Horseshoe Bay and continues up to some historic WWII fortifications. Keep an eye out for wild koalas and the Forts walk is one of the best places to spot them on the island.

4. Horseshoe Bay for sunset
