This premier sailing regatta, hosted by Townsville Yacht Club, brings together over 70 yachts from across Australia to compete in the crystal-clear waters of Cleveland Bay, off the coast of Townsville.
Sailing Highlights
From sleek 60-footers like Awen and Samurai to compact racers such as Guilty Pleasures X, the regatta offers a diverse fleet and thrilling competition. The event features a mix of round-the-island races, tactical windward-leeward legs, and scenic coastal sprints. Notable entries include:
- Beatrix, a multi-hull from Western Australia, making its debut appearance
- Serenity, a standout Amel 55 ketch with deep family ties to Magnetic Island
- Daguet 2, a Mylius 50 from Sydney, adding international flair to the fleet
Principal Race Officer Denis Thompson returns to oversee the action, ensuring world-class race management throughout the week 2.

Island Breeze Festival & Social Program
Beyond the racing, SeaLink helps deliver a vibrant social calendar that celebrates the island’s tropical charm. The Townsville Airport Island Breeze Festival on Sunday 31 August transforms Picnic Bay into a Cuban-inspired beach party, featuring:
- Afrekete Global Performers with roaming dance and music
- The Amazing Grace Early Learning Sandcastle Competition
- The Queensland Country Bank Great Inflatable Race
- Crab races supporting the Magnetic Island Koala Hospital
- Artisan Markets
- Live music from the Godfathers of Funk at the XXXX Beach Bar
Each evening, competitors and visitors gather at Peppers Blue on Blue for live music, race recaps, and presentations. Other highlights include the Leisurely Long Lunch on Friday 29 August, raising funds for the new Mater Hospital Maternity Ward 3.
