We are providing an important update on the temporary service shutdown, as part of the transition timeline to the new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service.
Physical construction and sea trials for Ruwi, the second new vessel for the Kangaroo Island Ferry Service, were completed in mid-September 2026 and she is ready for departure.
Despite our best efforts, SeaLink has not yet able to confirm the date on which Ruwi will depart Batam for Port Adelaide with the Australian contracted shipbuilder, Sea Transport SA Pty Ltd. However, we are continuing to work to confirm a departure date as soon as possible so we can advise the community.
The shutdown for installation of the new ferry ramps will proceed as planned from 20-22 October 2026, subject to weather conditions. As previously advised, once the new ramps are installed, SeaLion 2000 will operate as a single vessel for 3-4 days while harbour training of our crew occurs on the first new vessel, Wanggami, before she is brought into service.
As the second vessel has not yet left Batam, we are unable to advise a commencement date for both new ferries and the expanded schedule at this time.
A further update will be provided by the end of the week.
