When making a booking, please ensure you:
- Include your vehicle’s full dimensions, including any attachments or additional items (like roof racks, bike racks, or toolboxes).
- Update your booking if you add anything to the roof or tray of your vehicle before you travel.
- Accurately note towbars, trailers, boats, or caravans and their measurements.
- Select the correct vehicle category & type (e.g. make, model).
- Let us know if you’re carrying anything oversized or overhanging (large items such as fridges or hot water systems or long items like timber, ladders, or pipes).
To keep everyone moving safely and smoothly, it’s important that all vehicle bookings reflect accurate dimensions and details. Incorrect booking details may mean we can’t fit your vehicle on your booked service.
FAQs: Declaration of vehicle dimensions
Q: Why is it important to give accurate vehicle details when booking?
While we need you to tell us your vehicle type and dimensions, it’s also important to include anything that might make your vehicle take up more space—like items in your tray, or anything overhanging.
This helps us plan the deck layout safely and ensures we can fit you on your booked service.
Q: Why do I need to include roof racks or a load in the tray?
Even small additions can impact your height or length and may prevent your vehicle from fitting safely under any fixed spaces or within allocated lanes on our ferries.
Q: How do I measure my vehicle correctly?
Measure from the ground to the tallest point (including racks or loads), and from the frontmost to the rearmost part (including bull bars, spare wheels, towbars or trays). Be mindful of if you are carrying anything that is longer or wider than your vehicle (see next question).
Q: Do I need to declare if I’m carrying something like building materials or furniture?
Yes. Even if your vehicle itself hasn’t changed, we need to allow extra space for anything overhanging like timber, pipes, reo mesh, or ladders. This helps us hold the correct space you need for your vehicle so when our crew load the vessel they can do so safely and maintain the required clearance between each vehicle.
Q: What if I forget to update my booking?
Please call our Reservations team as soon as possible. We will try and accommodate the changes to your booking as best we can. Failure to declare exact measurements may mean we can’t fit your vehicle on your booked service, especially if it's full.
Q: What happens if my vehicle doesn’t fit?
If you don’t declare correctly when making a booking, we’ll do our best to accommodate you, but if the details you initially provided were incorrect and your vehicle doesn’t fit when amended to reflect the correct details, we may not be able to get you on your scheduled service—especially if it is full.
