SeaLink South Australia Releases New Kangaroo Island Ferry Service Schedule

As we approach an exciting new era for the Kangaroo Island Ferry Service (KIFS), we are thrilled to announce our new ferry schedule, that will commence after the introduction of our two new larger state-of-the-art ferries, Wanggami and Ruwi, in 2025.

The new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service will improve the customer experience with more daily departures, greater capacity, and improved amenities:

  • Increased daily departures: With a substantial increase in the number of daily departures, we're providing more flexibility and capacity, giving customers greater choice in planning their travel to and from Kangaroo Island.
  • Peak season (September to April): we will operate 22 departures per day (11 trips each way) Monday to Friday; and 18 departures per day (9 trips each way) Saturday to Sunday.
  • Off-peak season (May to August): we will operate 14 departures per day (7 trips each way).
  • Expanded capacity: The new ferries are approximately 10 metres longer and 2 metres wider than the current vessels, providing around 150 metres more vehicle lane space per departure.
  • Easier vehicle loading and offloading: The new design includes drive-through vehicle loading, with drive on and off in the same direction, which not only makes it easier for customers but also speeds up the loading process, allowing for quicker turnarounds.
  • Greater choice for freight carriers: The identical design of the vessels, Wanggami and Ruwi, also allows freight carriers to book on either vessel, offering greater choice of departure and flexibility for transporting goods including grain and hay for agricultural purposes.
  • Greater choice for coach and bus transport providers: With the increase in daily ferry departures, we are working closely with transport providers to ensure bus and coach transfer timetables are aligned with the new ferry schedule.
  • Improved customer amenities: Both ferries are designed to enhance our overall customer experience with a more comfortable ride, secure pet lounge, and on-board amenities including free WIFI and device charging stations, ensuring our customers can stay connected during their travels.
