Straddie has three coastal townships, each with their own rhythm, scenery and local feel. They’re all an easy drive from one another, connected by sealed roads, but each offers a slightly different kind of island experience.
Point Lookout (Mooloomba)
When you picture Straddie, you probably picture Point Lookout.
Perched on the island’s eastern coastline, this is where you’ll find sweeping ocean views, dramatic headlands and some of the best beaches in Queensland.
What to expect
Iconic beaches like Cylinder, Main Beach and Adder Rock
The North Gorge Walk, with ocean views, blowholes and regular wildlife sightings
Great swimming, surfing and snorkelling spots, including patrolled beaches
Whale watching from the headland during the winter months
Point Lookout has the most “holiday” energy on the island – busy in peak periods, but still laid-back and easygoing.

Dunwich (Goompi)
Dunwich is your arrival point – but it’s more than just a place to pass through.
Set along the western side of the island, it has a quieter, local feel and is considered the cultural heart of Straddie. It’s a great base for exploring inland and learning more about the island’s history and connection to Country.
What to expect
Waterfront views across the bay and calm swimming areas
Ferry terminals, making it the most connected part of the island
Dunwich feels grounded and authentic – a place for culture, quiet waters and local vibes.

Amity Point (Pulan)
Amity Point is all about calm water, quiet streets and classic bayside living.
Located on the western side of the island, it’s known for its relaxed pace and regular wildlife sightings. It’s a favourite for families and anyone looking to truly switch off.
What to expect
Calm, protected waters – ideal for swimming, fishing and sunset views
