Resident and Ratepayer Discounts

We value our North Stradbroke Island community and are proud to support both residents and ratepayers with discounted fares.

Residents are people who live on North Stradbroke Island permanently with their vehicles registered to their island address. Resident discounts are designed to make it easier and more affordable to attend appointments, do your shopping, and connect with the mainland when you need to.

Ratepayers are people who own property on North Stradbroke Island but live on the mainland. Ratepayer discounts help make it easier and more accessible to visit and maintain your island property.

North Stradbroke Island Residents

  • From 8 September 2025 to 31 March 2027, residents receive a flat fare of $59 for standard cars and $69 for large cars on all services. All other vehicles receive 20% off. In addition, residents who book online receive a $2.50 online discount (effective 1 April 2026).

    Please note:

    • The discount automatically applies to customers with a SeaLink resident profile.
    • Existing bookings within this timeframe will be adjusted to the new fares, and the credit will be applied to your account.

    • To account for busier services, a $20 surcharge applies on public holidays and the peak Christmas period: 6 October 2025; 22 December 2025 – 4 January 2026; and 26 January 2026.

    To access the resident fares, you must have a resident profile. The discount is applied to the vehicle you nominate, not to you personally. Commercially registered vehicles, trucks, or vehicles 2m+ wide are not eligible for the resident flat rate.

  • To qualify for a permanent island resident discount, you will need to fill out the application form and supply one of the below vehicle documents for each car that you would like to nominate for the resident discount.

    Accepted Vehicle Documents:

    Please provide at least one of the following documents:

    • Vehicle Registration Certificate (must list your island address or area concession)
    • Vehicle Renewal Notice (must list your island address or area concession)
    • Vehicle Insurance Document (must list the garaging address as an island address)
    • Screenshot of your TMR account homepage once logged in (must show your island address and the vehicles registered to you)

    The document must show that the vehicle is registered to a North Stradbroke Island address.

  • It is important we have your current contact details on file. Simply log into your account to update any personal details such as best mobile contact and email address. We use this information to send you your booking information and to contact you in the event of any changes to your booking such as delays due to weather.

    As we assign the discounted fare to your vehicle not your profile if you replace your nominated vehicle or have an additional vehicle/s to add to your profile you simply need to complete the vehicle change / update request process.

  • To ensure that our genuine island residents (and ratepayers) benefit from the discount, we will contact you to renew your details with us every two to three years. This will assist us in ensuring our details are up to date and will streamline your booking process.

    You will receive an email requesting you to confirm or renew your details by a particular date. After the cut-off date, we will deactivate any profiles that were not renewed.

    To renew your profile, please follow the above directions under "Apply for a Resident Profile".

  • The SeaLink Long-Term Car Park at Toondah Harbour is located on the corner of Middle Street and Emmett Drive, Cleveland, behind the SeaLink SEQ passenger and vehicle ferry terminal.

    Bays (spaces) in this car park are held on a permanent, long-term basis and are suitable for standard vehicles (up to 5.4m long and 2m wide) only.

    Please note that the car park is NOT a secure car park and SeaLink SEQ will not be held liable for any loss or damage, as per the Long-Term Car Park Terms & Conditions.

    Due to high demand, there is currently a waitlist, and waiting periods of longer than 4 years apply. To apply to join the waitlist, simply complete the Long Term Parking Waitlist Application.

North Stradbroke Island Ratepayers

  • Ratepayers currently receive 10% off all vehicle ferry bookings. From 1 April 2026, this discount will increase to 20% off.

    The ratepayer discount is applied to the actual vehicle you travel in, rather than to yourself. Ratepayers can nominate up to 2 vehicles for the discounted fare.

    In your application, you will need to let us know which car or cars you use to travel to and from the island, and once approved, your vehicle will receive the discounted fare.

    If you choose to book in one of our offices or over the phone at (07) 3488 5300, all you need to do is quote the name or phone number on your ratepayer profile to receive the discounted fare. If you choose to book online, you will need to log in with the username and password that is issued by our registration team.

    The North Stradbroke Island Ratepayer discount will apply to:

    • Standard cars up to 5.4m long
    • Motorbikes

    If you wish to travel with a commercial vehicle, a truck, or any other vehicle that is 2m or greater in width, the standard truck rate will apply to that vehicle.

  • To qualify for a permanent island ratepayer discount, you will need to fill out the application form and supply one of the below vehicle documents for each car that you would like to nominate for the ratepayer discount. Ratepayers can nominate up to 2 cars to be on their ratepayer profile. The cars must be registered in the property owner's name.

    Documents:

    • Vehicle registration certificate (the document must list yourself as the owner to be accepted).
    • Vehicle Renewal Notice (the document must list yourself as the owner to be accepted).
    • Vehicle Insurance Document (the document must list yourself as the owner to be accepted).
    • Screenshot of TMR Home Page once logged in (this will list the vehicles registered to you).

    The vehicle document must show that the vehicle is registered in the applicant's name.

Frequently Asked Questions - New Resident Discounts effective 8/09/25

  • It’s a new flat rate fare available exclusively to North Stradbroke Island (Straddie) residents travelling with a registered car.
    It offers a significant discount on standard fares, with consistent pricing across all services—making it easier for you to plan travel with confidence.

  • The new fares are available from Monday 8 September 2025. The discount will be automatically applied to all eligible bookings made from this date.

  • From 8 September 2025, the following flat rates apply:

    • $59 one way – for standard cars up to 5.4 metres
    • $69 one way – for larger cars from 5.5m to 6.4 metres
    • All other eligible resident vehicles – continue to receive the existing 20% discount
  • There are no exclusion dates, but a $20 surcharge will apply on:

    • All public holidays
    • The peak Christmas period: 22 December 2025 – 4 January 2026

    This helps cover higher operating and staffing costs during peak times.

  • Yes. SeaLink will adjust all existing eligible bookings for travel between 8 September 2025 and 31 March 2026. You do not need to contact us. If your booking is for a registered North Stradbroke Island resident and a qualifying vehicle, the new fare will be applied and the difference credited to your account.

  • Please call us on 07 3488 5300 to use your credit. Credits are not automatically applied to future bookings, so let our team know if you have credit and wish to use it.

  • You must:

    • Be a North Stradbroke Island resident
    • Have an approved SeaLink NSI Resident Profile
    • Be travelling with a registered vehicle

  • The $59 and $69 flat rates apply to cars only. All other registered resident vehicles such as motorbikes, trailers, or commercial vehicles will continue to receive the 20% resident discount.

  • Yes, from 8 September 2025, trailers (including boat, box, camper trailers, and caravans) will be charged a flat rate of $16/metre. This new rate ensures consistent pricing when booking, regardless of time of day or service.

  • You can book:

    Just make sure your Resident Profile is active, and your vehicle is registered.

  • Why is the Same Day Special no longer available?
    The Same Day Special fare will no longer be offered from Monday 8 September 2025, as it is being replaced by the new NSI Resident Flat Rate.
    This new fare provides more certainty and better value for residents:
    Lowest price in a decade – $59 flat rate for standard cars (up to 5.4m)
    Consistent pricing – same fare on all services, every day (excluding public holiday and Christmas peak surcharge)
    No surprises – unlike the Same Day Special, you won’t pay more to change to an earlier or later service
    Peace of mind – you can now plan ahead without worrying about dynamic pricing or time-based fare differences
    Previously, the Same Day Special offered 50% off the full fare for that time slot, meaning prices could vary depending on when you travelled. With the new flat rate, what you see is what you pay, and that applies across all services.

  • No. If you're an eligible resident with a valid profile, the fare will apply automatically.

  • This fare represents an almost 35% discount on the average amount residents currently pay, so we need to monitor their impact. The end date of 31 March 2026 gives us the opportunity to review how the fares are working and adjust if needed. It also aligns with our usual annual price review period.

  • We worked collaboratively with State Member Amanda Stoker to explore what more we could do for residents. Through that process, we’re pleased to now be in a position to offer these great fares.

  • This initiative is intended to support residents who need to travel to the mainland for appointments, shopping and essential services. Existing ratepayer discounts remain in place.

  • A profile allows us to keep your contact and vehicle details in the one place to streamline your booking process. The online login function is linked with your customer profile.

  • Physical applications can be posted to PO Box 195, Cleveland or handed in to the Cleveland or Dunwich office. Please note that incomplete applications will not be accepted.

  • No, once you’re logged in to the website as a Resident or Ratepayer, you will only be able to select from a list of vehicles that are registered to your profile.

  • Yes, if your vehicle is registered to your profile, it can still travel at the discounted rate even if you are not the driver.

  • Our terms and conditions can be found here.

  • Yes, for us to ensure that we have an accurate record of all genuine Residents and Ratepayers, a renewal process will take place a minimum of once every two years.

  • Only the vehicles approved and registered to your profile will be entitled to the discount. You will need to log out of your profile to make a booking online. The vehicle will incur the standard rate and any difference in fare must be paid before travel. Continued misuse of the discount may result in online privileges being revoked or your account suspended temporarily.

  • We have a flexible fare structure similar to an airline. We offer cheaper rates for customers who can travel off-peak. To get an off-peak fare, it is recommended to book as far in advance as possible, as the prices can change based on demand. Public holidays, school holidays, Fridays and Sundays are usually excluded from these cheaper fares as they are the busiest times to travel.
