SeaLink Western Australia supports Containers for Change Beach Clean at Wadjemup / Rottnest Island

SeaLink Western Australia proudly sponsored and participated in the Western Australian Return Recycle Renew Limited (WARRRL) Containers for Change Beach Clean at Thomson Bay on Rottnest Island on Monday, 13 May.

In collaboration with EcoSurf Australia, Containers for Change (WARRRL), the Rottnest Island Authority, and Samphire Rottnest, SeaLink WA transported 30 volunteers from the mainland who collected an impressive 54.5kg of rubbish in just one hour.

All items were logged with Tangaroa Blue Foundation, a national non-profit organisation that operates the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI), supporting communities in protecting their coastal environments.

SeaLink Western Australia General Manager, Leycester Cory, expressed his pride in supporting this important cause: “At SeaLink we know it’s important that we all play a part to protect the pristine lands and waterways in which we operate.

“Given we are out on the water every single day, our team is incredibly passionate about preserving, maintaining, and improving the ecosystem and coastal environment. While we’re disappointed with the volume of rubbish, I am really proud of our SeaLink team for donning the gloves and rolling up their sleeves to be proactive in removing it.”

Mr. Cory also commended the collaboration between the organisations: “Every piece of rubbish picked up is one less threat to marine life and the fragile coastal ecosystem.”

“We are looking forward to continuing our support at the next beach clean with EcoSurf Australia in December at Pinky Beach, Rottnest Island

Sonja Belle-Wood Founder of Eco Surf Australia added, “Initiatives like this beach clean are essential in raising awareness and making a tangible impact on our environment. We are grateful to SeaLink and all the volunteers for their dedication and hard work.”

SeaLink WA remains committed to supporting environmental initiatives and fostering a sustainable future for the coastal regions in which we operate.
