SeaLink's roots go back to the 1970s when a Kangaroo Island businessman formed the company Philanderer Ferries. In 1989 the ferry operation was purchased by Malaysian company MBF and renamed Kangaroo Island SeaLink.
In 1996, a group of South Australian investors and staff members purchased SeaLink from MBF, returning it to local ownership. In June 2006, the company celebrated this 10-year milestone with all staff.
The SeaLink Travel Group has rapidly developed with a turnover rising from $11million in 1996-97 to over $50million in 2006-07. The company now employs over 200 people in Australia and New Zealand.
SeaLink operates two luxury car and passenger ferries and a fleet of coaches and shuttle buses on Kangaroo Island. The two state-of-the-art ferries were built to SeaLink's specifications, providing exceptional reliability of service in all weather and can operate up to 12 services per day during peak periods.
