On a beautiful sunny Saturday in Fremantle, members of the SeaLink team hit the beach with over 500 courageous individuals to set a new world record. The challenge? Stay submerged in 3-degree water for three minutes as part of the groundbreaking “Ice Bath Challenge”.
In a global first, 509 people succeeded in staying in the icy water up to their necks for 3 minutes. Their brave feat set a new World Record and raised more than $30,000 for Beyond Blue and other deserving charities.

Event sponsors, SeaLink, provided team members and community partners from Rottnest Island Kid’s Club and A Table Somewhere to join the action. The team fearlessly (and literally) dove into the challenge to make history.
“At a balmy 29 degrees on Leighton Beach, nothing quite prepares you for the stark contrast of an ice bath – but it’s all truly in the breathing, and the team comradery,” said Leycester Cory, General Manager, SeaLink WA.
“Despite the cold shock, the event, with its focus on community and mental health awareness, was undeniably worthwhile.”

Within the SeaLink team were a mix of regular ice bath users and complete novices. All came away buzzing from the thrill of participating in such a positive community event.
While setting a new World Record was an exciting moment to be a part of, the main aim of the day was to raise awareness of the benefits of cold-water exposure on mental health. Event organiser, One Life Live It, already has more events in the pipeline to spread the positive impacts of ice bathing.
