Tour Details

  • The Grand Island Tour takes in all of Rottnest Island's natural attractions and historical landmarks. Pass by the Wadjemup Lighthouse, Henrietta Rocks, Oliver Hill Gun Fortification and Tunnels and the look-out point at Mabel Cove, before finishing with a unique historic train ride.

    From spectacular beaches to unspoiled salt lakes, we cover all the major habitats on this amazing tour. You'll learn about Rottnest Island's cultural and historical heritage, ranging from maritime and military history right up to its promising future.

    The tour takes about 4 hours and is at a distance of 700 meters, which includes climbing and descending many uneven steps and stairs (240+). A good level of fitness is required for this tour.

    • The Heritage Train sometimes requires unexpected and/or planned maintenance. The train portion of this tour may be replaced by a coach at any time and without prior notice.
    • The Tunnel Tour is a physically demanding 45-minute tour with approx. 700 metres of walking and 240+ uneven steps (equivalent to an 8-storey climb). There are no rest stops and no backtracking once inside. There is also a bush track on the way back up to the top of the hill. A good level of fitness is required. No carrying of children is permitted in the tunnel, except for small infants in baby carriers (which allow the accompanying adult to have both hands free to negotiate the railings). Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult and are not allowed to run ahead.
