Straddie’s beaches are some of the best in Queensland, but ocean conditions can change quickly. A few simple steps will help you stay safe and enjoy your time in the water.
The safest places to swim on Straddie are between the red and yellow flags at patrolled beaches in Point Lookout.
Always swim between the flags and follow the directions of lifeguards on duty.

Surf Life Saving uses a range of flags and signage to show conditions on the day.
If you’re ever unsure, check the signs on the beach or speak to a lifeguard before entering the water.

Even when the water looks calm, there can be hidden dangers.
If you’re caught in a rip, stay calm, float and raise your arm to signal for help.

The Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club plays a vital role in keeping visitors safe on Straddie’s beaches.
Lifeguards and volunteer surf lifesavers patrol key beaches, provide safety advice and respond to incidents. If you’re unsure about conditions, where to swim, or need assistance, speak to a lifesaver – they’re there to help.
While you’re here, you might also like to check out their Point Bar & Bistro – delicious food with one of the best views on the island.
