Getting to Straddie is simple – and the ferry is where it all begins. Just 30km from Brisbane CBD, it’s an easy journey to the terminal, whether you’re travelling by car, train or bus.

Getting to the Ferry Terminal (Cleveland)

All SeaLink services to North Stradbroke Island depart from Toondah Harbour in Cleveland.

Driving from Brisbane

From Brisbane CBD, it’s about a 45-minute drive depending on traffic. Follow Old Cleveland Road straight through to Cleveland.

Parking at Toondah Harbour

There are public car parks near the terminal, including overflow areas during peak periods.

A heads up – during weekends, school holidays and long weekends, parking fills quickly. If you can, arrive early or get dropped off

Public Transport Options

Train

You can catch the Cleveland line from Brisbane CBD directly to Cleveland Station. From there, it’s a short connecting bus ride or taxi to the ferry terminal.

Bus

TransLink operates regular bus services from across Brisbane to Cleveland.

SeaLink operates both passenger ferries and vehicle ferries, running throughout the day.

Passenger Ferry

Fast and easy – perfect if you’re travelling without a car.

• Travel time: approximately 25 minutes
• Arrives at Dunwich (Goompi) on North Stradbroke Island
• Tickets can be purchased online or before boarding
• Easy connections to TransLink buses on arrival

Great option for day trips or if you’re staying in one location.

Vehicle Ferry

Bring your car and explore the island at your own pace.

• Travel time: approximately 45 minutes
• Space for cars, caravans, buses and most vehicle types
• Onboard café with drinks and snacks
• Bookings are essential

Boarding the Ferry

For both passenger and vehicle ferries, check-in is straightforward:

• Passenger ferry – arrive 15–20 minutes before departure. If you’re coming by car, park in one of the car parks and walk over to the passenger ferry arch.
• Vehicle ferry – arrive at least 30 minutes prior. Follow the blue line to the check-in window, where our staff will direct you from there.

Follow crew instructions at all times, especially when boarding the vehicle ferry.

Getting Around on Straddie

Once you arrive at Dunwich, getting around is easy – even without a car.

Local Buses (TransLink)

Regular buses run between Dunwich, Amity Point and Point Lookout.

Taxis and Private Transport

Rideshare services aren’t available on the island, but there are local operators who can get you where you need to go. Booking ahead is recommended, especially during busy periods.

Driving on the Island

All main roads between the three townships are sealed, so any vehicle can get around easily.

If you’re planning to drive on the beach or access 4WD areas, you’ll need a permit through Minjerribah Camping.
