Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you travel with us every day or it’s your first time on board, this page covers the key details about the Moggill Ferry service.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No booking needed. The Moggill Ferry runs on demand, so just drive up during operating hours and you’ll be transported across.

  • For everyone’s safety, please wait for the all clear from the Deckhand or Master before boarding or leaving the vessel.

If you’re driving on, remain seated in your vehicle with the handbrake on and engine switched off once onboard. Take care when opening doors during loading and unloading. At night, please switch off your headlights so the Master can clearly see the ramps.

Walk-on passengers must wait until all vehicle movements are complete before boarding or disembarking.

For safety reasons, passengers who do not follow crew directions do so at their own risk.

  • Yes. Vessel maintenance or weather conditions may occasionally cause service interruptions or delays.

For the latest updates, please visit the Ferry Service Status page on this website.

  • No. Smoking and the consumption of alcohol are not permitted on board, in line with Queensland Transport regulations.

Queensland Police and Transport Officers may issue on-the-spot fines for non-compliance. Intoxicated or disorderly behaviour will not be tolerated, and passengers may be refused boarding if necessary.

  • Yes, dogs are welcome on board.

Dogs travelling with walk-on passengers must be restrained with a secure collar and lead at all times.

Dogs travelling in the back of utilities or vehicles must also be properly restrained so they cannot reach passengers or crew during loading and unloading. This can be done using a lead or by ensuring vehicle windows are fully wound up.

  • Yes, bicycles are permitted.

Cyclists must walk their bicycles on board and wait until all vehicle movements have been completed before boarding.

  • Yes. Passengers with a disability are welcome to travel.

Please note that the shore-based ramps are steep, and some passengers may require assistance when boarding or disembarking. Our crew are always happy to help - simply let them know.

  • No. Concession and pensioner discounts are not available on the Moggill Ferry.

  • All freight is carried at the owner’s risk, and SeaLink is not responsible for any loss or damage.

Walk-on passengers may only bring items they can safely carry on board without assistance.

  • The Moggill Reach of the Brisbane River is tidal, with water levels ranging from approximately 0.2 metres at low tide to 2.5 metres at high tide.

At lower tide levels, the concrete ramps on both the Moggill and Riverview sides can become quite steep. Please drive slowly when boarding and disembarking, and always follow crew instructions.

Around low tide, some larger vehicles may not be able to safely load. This can include semi-trailers, trucks with long or low rear overhangs, long caravans, coaches, buses and trailers with low clearance behind the rear axle.

To avoid disappointment, drivers of these vehicles are encouraged to check local tide times and plan their crossing closer to high tide where possible.

  • Yes, but only approved fuel containers are permitted on board.

Fuel containers must comply with Australian Standard AS 2906 and be clearly labelled or stamped accordingly. This applies to portable metal or plastic fuel containers up to 25 litres designed for petrol, two-stroke fuel, kerosene or distillate.

Non-compliant containers, such as old oil drums or unapproved vessels, will not be accepted.

The Master has the authority to refuse any fuel container that does not meet the required standard.

  • All vehicles, including government vehicles, are required to pay the full fare when using the Moggill Ferry.

Emergency service vehicles, including police, fire, ambulance and SES, travelling on active duty continue to travel free of charge.
