Enjoy the leisurely drive through the scenic Fleurieu Peninsula in your own car, in a rental car, or on a SeaLink coach connection. Relax on board our ferry for your 45-minute cruise to Kangaroo Island before setting out on your next adventure.

Explore the island at your own pace in the comfort and convenience of your own car or let our SeaLink guides host and inform you on one of our many tours - the choice is yours.

Self Drive: Bring your car on the ferry or rent a car on the island. Choose from a variety of places to stay and experiences.

Guided Tours: Choose from our great range of tours - single day and multi-day tours.

  • Enjoy a leisurely 1.5-hour drive along Main South Road from Adelaide to Cape Jervis, winding through the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula. We recommend that you arrive at least half an hour prior to departure for check-in.

  • Safe, secure day and long-term car parking options are available at Cape Jervis right near the SeaLink Ferry Terminal. The car park opens prior to the first ferry departure and is locked after the last departure arrives from Penneshaw. The cost is $18 per day and you can book a spot when arranging your ferry travel or at the terminal upon check-in.

Unsecured time-restricted car parking is also available in the vicinity of the ferry terminal. For more information please call our sales centre on 13 13 01.

  • SeaLink operates coach connections from Adelaide to the Cape Jervis Ferry Terminal and from the Penneshaw Ferry Terminal on Kangaroo Island to American River and Kingscote, twice daily. Please visit our SeaLink timetables page for more information on SeaLink's coach connections.

  • SeaLink can assist with booking airport transfers on Kangaroo Island, for small and larger groups. To book a transfer please contact our SeaLink sales centre on 13 13 01 or email bookings@sealink.com.au

  • Kangaroo Island is widely accessible by conventional vehicles and is well serviced with an extensive bituminised road network.

We urge caution on all island roads, especially the unsealed ones. Kangaroo Island residents are some of the warmest and most hospitable people you will meet - it is common to raise your finger from the steering wheel when passing a car, known as the 'Kangaroo Island wave'. Whilst friendly, locals are protective of their home and take a very dim view of people driving on their roads recklessly or at excessively high speed.

Please also remember that in Australia, we drive on the left-hand side of the road and if you find that you are travelling at a slower speed than vehicles behind you, it is courtesy to pull to the left-hand side of the road, when safe and practicable, to allow these vehicles to overtake you.

Also, please be wary that native animals on Kangaroo Island come out early in the morning (dawn), at sunset (dusk) and during the night and they tend to congregate at the sides of the road. These animals have not been to a road safety school, so please take care. Read more here.

  • For a list of petrol stations on the island please download SeaLink's useful information for travel on Kangaroo Island document.

Please note, if you are departing Kangaroo Island on late ferry service, the nearest open petrol station will be ‘Ampol Normanville’ 216 Main South Rd, Normanville - approximately 32kms north of Cape Jervis. Ampol is open daily from 6:00 am until 8:30 pm. Be aware that you may need to top up your petrol tank prior to leaving the island.

  • If you do not have your own car to take on the ferry, SeaLink can arrange a rental car in Adelaide or be waiting for you on arrival at the Penneshaw ferry terminal on Kangaroo Island or at the Kangaroo Island, Kingscote Airport.
