These are just a few ‘themed’ Kangaroo Island Self-Drive itinerary suggestions, so that you can make the best out of your holiday on Kangaroo Island. Make sure you download a map or pick one up when you check in.

A. 3 Day Nature and Wildlife Focus
Day One
Once you leave the ferry in Penneshaw, take time to check out this quaint, Cornish like village. On leaving Penneshaw, take Hog Bay Road and check out Pennington Bay on your way, then travel to American River, a quiet, friendly fishing village nestled on a hillside in native bushland and a bird-watching paradise!After your visit to American River, travel to Kingscote where you may be interested in soaking up some fun on a Kangaroo Island Marine Tour, where you can swim with dolphins or enjoy a snorkeling adventure. We suggest you do book ahead though.
There's also plenty to see and do in and around Kingscote, including evening Cellar Doors, Afternoon Pelican Feeding, Island Beehive, Art Galleries and evening Penguin Tours.

Day Two
Today is the day to start making use of your National Parks Pass (can be pre-purchased), which allows you unlimited access to Seal Bay guided tours, Kelly Hill Show Cave tour, Flinders Chase National Park and Lightstation tours at Cape Borda and Cape Willoughby.We suggest you make your way early to Flinders Chase National Park to the breathtaking Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch and Cape du Couedic Lightstation. Call into the award winning Flinders Chase Visitor Centre and Café. There are plenty of walks and hiking tracks available in the Park as well.
Stop off at Hanson Bay Sanctuary and marvel at the number of koalas seen along the ‘Koala Walk’. Then travel to Kelly Hill for the amazing underground Show Cave tour and then onto Seal Bay Conservation Park for a stroll down the boardwalk and a guided beach walk tour amongst a colony of wild Australian sea lions - an amazing wildlife experience!

Day Three
Today take time out to explore some of Kangaroo Island's unique cottage industries and a visit to a wildlife park. We suggest you visit the very interesting Parndana Wildlife Park, home to many orphaned Kangaroo Island animals, Island Pure Sheep Dairy, Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery and Clifford's Honey Farm on your way back to the eastern end of the island.Following this, we suggest you explore the Dudley Peninsula area and take a guided tour up the spiral staircase to the top of the Cape Willoughby Lightstation. If time permits today, take the 1.9km self-guided Lightstation Heritage Walk with stunning panoramic views and a path that leads to a rocky beach landing.
Return to Penneshaw late this afternoon for your evening return trip to the mainland. Prior to your ferry trip you might like to dine at one of Penneshaw's eating venues including a restaurant, pub and take-a-way stores.
B. 3 Day Adventure Junkie
Day One
After checking out Penneshaw on arrival on Kangaroo Island, we suggest you head to Prospect Hill and climb the 512 steps for the most amazing views of the island. Cool off in the stunning blue waters of nearby Island Beach with its pristine white sandy beach which is sure to refresh your spirits!Then if you want your first glimpse of the Southern Ocean, take a short diversion to Pennington Bay and see its stunning cliffs, blue waters and sandy beach. Next, head to Vivonne Bay (named Australia’s best beach) on the south coast and visit Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action for the thrill and excitement of sand boarding down the enormous, white sand hills of Little Sahara.
Afterwards, take a guided quad bike tour of the 500-acre property and witness amazing coastal scenery. If you haven't crammed enough adventure into your day, there's surfing and kayaking too, or head to Kelly Hill Caves for some adventure caving! Best to pre-book all of these activities with us.

Day Two
Slow the pace down this morning with a drive through the famous Flinders Chase National Park and visit Admiral's Arch and see the playful colony of New Zealand fur seals. Be amazed by the incredible rock formations at Remarkable Rocks and take the Weirs Cove Hike (3kms) from Cape du Couedic Lightstation to appreciate the life of a light keeper!Stop off for a light lunch at the Flinders Chase Visitor Centre and Café on your way out of the Park.
Drive on through to the picture perfect coastline and beaches of the north coast and beaches to Stokes Bay. Once there, park the car and follow the signs to ‘The Beach'. Make your way through the headland of boulders where you'll find a beautiful, white sandy beach surrounded by cliffs and a safe swimming spot for the whole family.
Follow the signs back to Kingscote before it gets dark and see the famous ‘Pelican Man’ feed the local pelican residents around 4.30-5pm each day at the Kingscote Wharf.

Day Three
Kangaroo Island is well known for its abundance of seafood. Impress your friends and family and take a feed of fish home! We suggest you spend a half-day with Cooinda Fishing Charters on their 13 metre cruiser, from American River. With your catch in your cooler (esky), head east to Penneshaw for your return ferry journey back to the mainland.If time permits, stop off at Sunset Winery on the way for a tasting platter and incredible views over Eastern Cove. A wonderful finish to 3 amazing days on Kangaroo Island!
C. 3 Day Food and Wine Lover
Day One
We suggest you head to Kingscote with a stop at KI Spirits on the way for a little heart starter! This amazing boutique distilling business offers many flavoured spirits, great for cocktails!When in Kingscote, check out the art galleries where you will be impressed by the amazing art work of local Kangaroo Island artists. Visit Ferguson's Australia on the way in to Kingscote to purchase sumptuous Kangaroo Island seafood including their specialty - lobster!
There’s a great choice of cafes and restaurants in Kingscote for lunch and dinner and the nearby Bay of Shoals Cellar Door is a great spot for wine tasting and taking in the great views over the bay.
We also suggest an afternoon visit to Island Pure Sheep Dairy to view the sheep milking session followed by tastings of the delightful Mediterranean style cheeses and yoghurts, including the famous greek-style haloumi cheese, great pan-fried!
Taste the local organic honey and learn about the famous Ligurian Bee at The Island Beehive and Café. Later tonight, we suggest taking an evening penguin tour at the KI Penguin Centre Kingscote Wharf (can be prebooked). You'll be delighted by the Little Penguin colony that lives here and it will be a great end to your day.

Day Two
No trip to Kangaroo Island is complete without a visit to Seal Bay Conservation Park for a guided beach walk amongst the colony of wild Australian sealions - an amazing experience! We suggest a morning visit to Seal Bay, followed by a visit to Rustic Blue Gallery (seasonal).Then travel to Andermel Marron Farm and Café and Two Wheeler Creek Wines (a great 3 in 1 venue!). The Café serves a scrumptious seafood platter with their specialty - freshwater marron. You can also view the live marron in the purging tanks and they are available for purchase, live, cooked or pickled! The Cellar Door is open for wine tastings and sales.
Later this afternoon, travel to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery for the unique experience of seeing this fully functioning distillery produce a truly Australian product from the narrow leaf mallee – eucalyptus oil. Visit Clifford's Honey Farm to learn more about the famous Ligurian Bee and for tastings of honey and their famous honey ice-cream.
If time permits, detour to American River and purchase farm fresh free-range eggs from a roadside stall, or if its oyster season (April to December) go to the wharf and purchase yourself some fresh Kangaroo Island oysters! Head to Penneshaw where we suggest you have dinner at the award winning Sorrento's Restaurant at the KI Seafront Resort.

Day Three
Today we suggest you visit a few of the Cellar Doors that are appearing around Kangaroo Island and in particular on the Dudley Peninsula. Firstly, start with a morning tea (with some wine tasting of course at the Dudley Cellar Door and Café, right in the heart of Penneshaw. Then head off to visit the MB Stoner Art Glass and Silk Studio specialising in one-off pieces including scent bottles, sculptural pieces, jewellery and beads.Then make your way to the Cape Willoughby Lighthouse for a guided tour and a step back in time. Then it's onto the unique Chapman River Cellar Door for wine tasting and a delicious antipasto platter.
Top your afternoon off before your ferry cruise back to the mainland with a visit to the Sunset Winery and its stunning location on the hillside overlooking Eastern Cove. We just know you won't want to leave!
D. 3 Days – Art Focus
